Recent news reports vary from numerous reports of air traffic controllers falling asleep on the job to the resignation of the FAA's Chief of Air Traffic Controllers.

Changes are being made to re-work schedules and add more controllers to relieve the long hours. Controllers say the design of the job itself--sitting in a dark room at night waiting for pilots to call-- have made naps necessary with some radar centers equipped with cots for the sleepy controllers. Stress takes it's toll taxing the controller to exhaustion with the job ranking high in stress. According to "Men's Health" magazine, the top ten most stressful jobs are: Inner City High School Teacher, Police Officer, Miner, Air Traffic Controller, Medical Intern, Stockbroker, Journalist, Customer Service/Complaint worker, Secretary, and Waiter.
