On this day in 1974, the group Lynyrd Skynyrd released what would become their signature song "Sweet Home Alabama". It has one of the most recognizable opening of any song. When you hear the beginning, you know what it is.

The song came from their second album "Second Helping". The song was a response to Neil Young's song "Southern Man".

Recently, artist Kid Rock used the song to influence his hit song "All Summer Long".
